Sugarloaf Mountain is a monolith made up of granite and quartz.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a peak in Rio de Janeiro.

In Portuguese, Sugarloaf Mountain translates to Pão de Açúcar.

The name was given to the peak simply because it resembled a sugar loaf.

The peak is located near Guanabara Bay and reaches 1,299 feet above the harbor.

This amazing attraction is an icon in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most visited attractions in the city.

Sugarloaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer Statues are two of the most recognizable icons in Rio.

To reach the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, you must take two cable cars.

The first cable car will take you 220 meters.

When you reach this area, you will be able to gaze upon spectacular views of Corcovado Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer Statue.

The second bubble-shaped cable car is a little bit bigger and takes you to the peak.

The cable car is glass-paneled to give you amazing 360˚views of Sugarloaf Mountain and the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The cars hold up to 65 passengers and run every 20 minutes between Pão de Açúcar and Cara de Cão.

The total distance the cable car travels is 1,400 meters.

Amazingly, it doesn’t take very long to reach the top.

When you do finally reach the top, you can see Copacabana Beach and other famous spots around the city.

The cable cars were first introduced in 1912.

They were rebuilt in the early 1970s and again in 2008.
